Never Finished, David Goggins

I read his first book, and became interested in his mindset. Definitely a one-of-a-kind. He is an original, and that’s what makes it worthy of a read. What I enjoy most about him is that he doesn’t care what other people think and pursues his goals strictly to suffer in order to learn more about himself as a human being. This continuation from his previous memoir dives into more stories about physical feats and setbacks that are all-encompassing sufferfests, and how he overcame those setbacks and rose from the flames. He could have easily gotten a publishing deal, but decided to self-publish again, just because. I love that. Why? He remembered the run-around he received in his first book from agents and publishers. I know that feeling – especially from the Hollywood networks when trying to launch my own TV shows and docuseries. Most, if not all, are vultures and backstabbing piranhas who just want to take and steal for their own personal gain with no remorse. He’ll kill the deal if doesn’t feel life and does not live his life by the almighty dollar – once again, another important component I relate to. If you’re living to make money, you’re the type of person I know doesn’t get what I’m about and what drives the sense of purpose in this world. Goggins became a certified EMT, Smokejumper (at forty-seven)….why? Because it’s a challenge, and life is a challenge, and he wants to see what he’s made of inside, and most importantly – why the hell not?  The only thing stopping you in life is you.

For me, attitude and action are paramount! This is why I like Goggins. Sure he’s cocky as hell. Too cocky for me and probably not someone I’d want to spend the majority of my time with,  but he backs it up. And with that- he has my deepest respect.

Goggins understands finding those who want the very best from you without an agenda. He knows identity is a trap, and what we are saddled with by society. A true exploration of the self comes when you strip that identity away.

Most are intimidated by an unknown future. There in itself is life’s gift to you.
