If It Bleeds, Stephen King
The mysteries of the imagination. This is something King talks about frequently – how he doesn’t even realize where many of his stories come from… they just appear and he explores it. The book contains 4 stories: one where a woman must face her fears and possibly another outsider… this time on her own (Holly Gibney is a reoccurring character in King’s books); the next is a intergenerational friendship with an interesting afterlife; a story about how each of us contains multiplicities; and the last one, my favorite is about a struggling writer trying to write his first novel and must contend with the darker side of ambition. Our mind’s storage capacity within the brain is infinite, beyond our ability to even remotely comprehend. Billions of people on this earth, each one with a world inside them. Some characters are reminded that friendship is not only life-affirming but can be life-saving, a connection between two people always has it’s own rewards, and life’s pleasures are always temporary, so learn to appreciate them.
