Dogland, Tommy Tomlinson

His questions on whether dogs were happy or not grew into spending 3 years on the road going behind the scenes at more than 100 dog show competitions across the country. Picking a top showdog is like drafting an NBA player while they’re still in elementary school. What is attractive about the book is Tommy’s curiosity about people and their dogs beyond the tent. It shows the ordinary lives of dogs and how the bond has changed over the centuries – the origins of different dog breeds, elaborate breed standards, and health issues of purebred dogs. Dogs are the greatest multi-tool ever created, endlessly versatile, and able to adapt to an astonishing range of human needs. One thing you find out as a dog owner is they allow you to figure out the best part of this life is loving anything… and you do it even knowing the hardest part, which is that somewhere in the equation, inevitably, there will be a loss. Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love and loyalty. They depart to teach us about loss.
