You know going into this type of book, you’re not planning on having an epiphany on the meaning of life and your purpose in the world. But it still can be an enjoyable read, which this one was. I am GenX. I grew up with Burt’s films. Watched him on Carson a billion times. He’s now not with us. It’s the holidays. Oh, what the hell. When Burt entered the entertainment business it was his looks that got him the jobs. He worked in TV, and people would tell him he looked like Brando. They follow him on the streets. At first it got on his nerves, then it just pissed him off. The main reason he grew that mustache – Brando.
He grew up playing football. A great athlete. Gets injured. You know the rest. A stuntman in his own right who did many of his own stunts in films.. (at least during the first half of his career).
This book reads like a who’s who of Hollywood history. His romances with women celebrities, batted eyes with Bette Davis; went up with Gable and Coppola; his friendships with Voight, Wells, Eastwood, Sinatra. He reflects on his life in a very candid and personal way and opens the door to what it was like in Hollywood.
