Blackfish City, Sam Miller
Playing out after the climate wars on a man-made floating island complete with geothermal heating and sustainable energy.. ah, hope! Constructed in the Arctic Circle built as a permanent lifeboat for survivors of the apocalypse. It’s a tale of community… before crime and corruption begin to set in…. contradictions of wealth alongside poverty always bring conflict. Then a new disease takes hold of the community. A badass woman warrior? Yet, she does arrive to take control of the situation astride her pet orca and polar bear by her side. She very subtly brings together four people to stage unprecedented acts of resistance, and in turn learn shocking truths about themselves. Bleak and depressing in the sense of failure of humankind. Can human connection utterly reverse our own demise?
